Turn Your Xbox 360 into a Streaming Netflix Player

June 25, 2008

Although there is an alternative way to watch movies than streaming (plugging a usb drive device into the 360). Someone has created a hack for the Xbox 360 (not really a hack, but a work around) to stream Netflix movies on the Xbox 360. So if you’re a Netflix subscriber and you have a 360 + you have Windows Media Center, you’re in for a treat. I over looked the process and it seems reasonable, but I never got a chance to actually try it because of two factors. 1. I’m a Mac user and 2. I don’t subscribe to Netflix. So for those who do have the triple threat with the Xbox, Netflix and Windows Media Center, take a shot at it and let me know what you think! Instructions after the jump.

June 23, 2008

The wait is now over. Rockstar has just released a patch for Grand Theft Auto IV. The update fixes multiplayer connectivity issues including freezes during certain modes, continuation when players leave matches, and bugs within races and race lobbies. Here’s the rest of the details.

  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to enter or exit vehicles in GTA Race.
  • Fixed an issue where scripted vehicles were causing games to unexpectedly crash.
  • Improved reliability and frequency of PS3™ online leaderboard updates.
  • Fixed a rare hang some players encountered when moving from a Race or GTA Race lobby into gameplay.
  • Fixed a hang that would occur when players were switching teams during the countdown in the lobby.
  • Fixed an issue where players were able to get ridiculously high scores from Cops ‘n Crooks matches.
  • Changed GTA Race and Race so that the last player remaining always receives a reward of $250.
  • Fixed an issue where spectating players would prevent the game from finishing.
  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to spectate in Round 2 of Cops ‘n Crooks games.
  • Changed countdown timer in lobby so that it no longer resets when new players join a game.

Call of Duty: World At War Debut Trailer

June 21, 2008

Now check this out, I know you’ve heard about the new Call of Duty, but have you seen the debut trailer yet? It looks pretty sweet. We know that it takes place in WWII and they’re using the same game engine from Call of Duty 4 (which is not a problem). No more fighting Germans though, more like Japanese. Watching the trailer reminded me of Letters from Iwo Jima. It’s a bit dramatic, but it definitely catches my attention. What do you think? You can also look back on my previous post to see more details.

THQ: Saints Row 2 “Very Different” from GTA IV

June 20, 2008

October is still a while away, but Brian Farrell, the CEO of THQ is claiming that Saints Row 2 is “different enough from other sandbox titles to stand out and be a success.” Surprisingly enough, the original Saints Row sold over 2 million copies on the 360, but the biggest complaint was that it ripped off GTA. Farrell also states that as GTA has a deep story and character driven plot, Saints Row will be about “tongue-in-cheek … silly, over-the-top gameplay”. Bottom line, while the GTA franchise is more realistic, Saints Row is headed towards unrealism and over the top gameplay. One aspect of the game that will be different amongst other sandbox games is the two-player co-op mode. Expect to see more info on Saints Row 2 in the near future and on store shelves October 14th..

Quantum of Solace & Daniel Craig

June 19, 2008

If you’re familiar with Treyarch’s work, they’ve developed games such as Call of Duty: United Offensive, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World at War (coming) the Spiderman series, and some others big titles. Anyways, Quantum of Solace is a game in development expected to ship in November. Activision has kept pretty quiet, but what we know so far is that they’re using the same engine as Call of Duty 4 and Daniel Craig’s voice will be featured in the game. It is a first-person shooter in the genre of action which will include both singleplayer and multiplayer modes.

Gears of War 2 Shotgun Advantage

June 19, 2008

Now you might be thinking, “what, the host getting an advantage using shotgun?”. I’m here to say that it isn’t happening. Better yet Cliff Bleszinski confirmed that for Gears of War 2, they fixed one of the biggest disadvantages/complaints in not being host. If you played Gears of War multiplayer, you’re probably familiar with what I’m talking about. So fear not, when Gears of War 2 ships this November, we’ll be playing a game with less inconsistencies and better gameplay!

Facebreaker September 5th

June 18, 2008

Have you been hearing the buzz about facebreaker? Well, if you haven’t, you can recall EA’s Fight Night Round 3 debut on the 360 to be an stellar boxing title on the Xbox 360. Recently, Don King Presents Prizefighter got so many bad reviews from critics and it’s pretty much out of the league compared to Fight Night 3. Facebreaker is a new cartoonish Punch-Out style boxing game that will feature “highly stylized aesthetic, with comical caricatures of boxers being pummeled by an assortment of head shots, body blows, and haymakers.”

Price cuts and 60GB Xbox 360 rumored for E3

June 17, 2008

E3 is happening exactly a month from now. Everyone loves hearing good rumors. I know I do. It’s not blu-ray unfortunately. The speculation is of a 60gb hard drive and a price drop on the 360. Another price drop you say? How cheap are these machines going to get? I paid about $499 for mine when it first came out. I wonder if they’ll ever just sell the console bare bone with just a controller? Maybe that could be priced around $199. Now that’s a tough choice. Would you rather purchase a brand new Xbox 360 or pick up a brand new 3g iphone?

Happy Fathers Day

June 15, 2008

Today we celebrate our fathers who took care of us and raised us to become who we are today. We appreciate. I hope you gamers out there do something nice for his or her dad. My father was an immigrant and he first came to America in the 70s looking to better his life. He started working in a factory 5 days a week for 8 hours getting paid $3.50/hour. He also went to school from 8am to 5pm then worked from 7pm to 3am. Did this for a total of 2 year back-to-back. He’s moved on since then and is now a leading manager for an engineering corporation. My father has come a long way from where he first began and today, we celebrate all the things our fathers have done for us!
